The JAAM diagnostic criteria categorically defined for sepsis induced DIC, included criteria for diagnosing of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).10 These diagnostic criteria have high sensitivity (93%) and specificity (98%) as regards the diagnosis of DIC.11 The platelet count and prothrombin time (PT) tests could be used in absence of the other criteria to determine a patient with sepsis induced coagulopathy (SIC). The gene discussed is F2; the disease is systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
