As shown above, KAI1/CD82 palmitoylation prevents tumor metastasis in both breast and prostate cancers; however, the palmitoylation of KAI1/CD82 on the membrane of AML cells promotes the development of aggressive leukemia through recruiting and stabilizing protein kinase C alpha (PKCα) in membrane clusters, and subsequently sustaining ERK signaling [64]. Here, CD82 is linked to acute myeloid leukemia.
