Iron-catalyzed disorder of intracellular lipid peroxide metabolism leads to GPX4 inactivation, destruction of the redox balance, and ferroptosis; these findings show that GPX4 plays an important role in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, cardiac hypertrophy, cardiomyopathy, and AAA (18, 53). Here, GPX4 is linked to atherosclerosis.
