ACE2 and COVID-19: Thiazolidinediones (TZDs) is one of the antidiabetic therapies that has been found to induce inflammation by elevating ACE2 and angiotensin 1-7 expressions.8 Moreover, in a meta-analysis of 13 trials, increased risk of developing pneumonia was found in TZD group.9 These explanations suggest that there are strong associations between COVID-19 and both diabetes mellitus and its management.
