Tyrosinase (TYR) converts L-tyrosine to l-DOPA (3,4-Dihydroxy-l-phenylalanine) and oxidizes L-DOPA to form dopachrome, inducing the production of melanin, a pigment that is associated with hyperpigmentation and neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease [9]. Here, TYR is linked to Parkinson disease.
