GLP1R and type 2 diabetes mellitus: The rapid evolution of our understanding of T2DM has expedited the development of novel medications and several new antidiabetic medications have gained widespread use in the last decade, including dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, and sodium/glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, which have been also incorporated in the latest international scientific guidelines for the management and treatment of T2DM [2,3,4,5].
