Beginning with atherosclerosis as a chronic inflammatory disorder of the blood vessels characterized by the accumulation of lipids in the arterial wall, forming an atherosclerotic plaque that restricts blood flow, it has been described that circulating PCSK9 may contribute to several cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction [12,41,46,47].
