A group of aminotransferases including glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT, also known as alanine aminotransferase), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), branched-chain amino acid transaminase (BCAT), ornithine aminotransferase (OAT), and phosphoserine aminotransferase 1 (PSAT1) link glutamate with the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and amino acid metabolism, which are required for synthesis of macromolecular building blocks to support cancer cell proliferation [3,4,5]. The gene discussed is PSAT1; the disease is cancer.
