RARRES2 and fatty liver disease: Data on hepatic chemerin mRNA expression are contradictory; its levels were found to be negatively associated with inflammation, fibrosis, and NAS, but not with steatosis, in non-obese NAFLD patients [123], while other studies verified an increased hepatic chemerin mRNA expression, as well as hepatic CMKLR1 expression, that correlated with hepatic steatosis, hepatocyte ballooning, and the NAFLD activity score in obese NAFLD patients [124,125].
