The relationship between diabetes and the development of vascular dysfunction in type 1 DM patients is pointed by many markers which correspond to endothelial dysfunction, inclusive EC-dependent low vasodilation, elevated von Willebrand factor (vWF) levels, selectin, thrombomodulin, PAI-1, t-PA, and type IV collagen, as have been demonstrated in this patient population. The gene discussed is VWF; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
