Transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1) has been shown to be increased in exfoliation syndrome (XFS) and XFG [1,2] eyes and is a key mediator for regulating extracellular matrix homeostasis [3], reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and redox balance in the cell milieu [4]. The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is exfoliation syndrome.
