In terms of clinical laboratory findings, as demonstrated in Table 1, there are great similarities concerning the abnormal hematological and biochemical laboratory findings in SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 infected patients, including significant leukopenia, lymphopenia, thrombocytopenia, elevated serum levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and liver enzymes [aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT)] and their diagnostic utility in determining disease severity and poorer outcomes [5, 88–91].
