Targeted cancer therapies have been increasingly used during the past two decades for the treatment of certain cancer types that are driven by single oncogenic proteins (Druker et al., 2001; Tsimberidou et al., 2020); for example, HER2-positive breast cancer can be treated with HER2-targeted therapeutic agents such as trastuzumab (Vogel et al., 2002). The gene discussed is ERBB2; the disease is breast carcinoma.
