PHPT is mainly caused by excessive synthesis and secretion of parathyroid hormones (PTH) by parathyroid adenomas (85%), hyperplasia (10%), or cancer (<1%),[1,2] which leads to high blood calcium levels and reduced blood phosphorus levels, thus causing a series of pathological changes in the bone and kidney.[3] PHPT can be categorized into the kidney, bone and kidney-bone types. The gene discussed is PTH; the disease is cancer.
