Among these genes, ZEB1 was the most attractive candidate based on the following: (i) ZEB1, the core transcriptional inducer of EMT, is a key factor for cell plasticity and cancer metastasis [35], (ii) ZEB1 maintains cell fate and stem cell quiescence [36], and (iii) its elevated expression in poor-prognosis LUAD (Fig. 6D). The gene discussed is ZEB1; the disease is cancer.
