These lung/amniotic fluid–correlated transcripts were highly enriched in lung epithelial progenitor (Clara cells) and alveolar type 1 and type 2 cells markers, essential for gas exchange and surfactant production (Figure 3B), as well as in mRNAs associated with lung inflammation — in particular, monocyte activation and inflammatory transcriptional regulation STAT3, PPARG, NFKB, and RELA (Supplemental Figure 5, A and B, and Supplemental Table 10).
