When measured at days 5–7 from the cohort of interest, all three parameters had excellent predictive power for occurrence of secondary infection at day 30, with percentage of immature neutrophils performing best (unadjusted HR 2.55 (1.38–4.73) p = 0.003), followed by mHLA-DR (unadjusted HR 2.52 (1.31–4.85) p = 0.006), and IL-10 levels (HR 2.18 (1.07–4.45) p = 0.031). The gene discussed is IL10; the disease is infection.
