BAX and cancer: Cytotoxic drugs, including cisplatin (DDP), 5‐fluorouracil (5‐Fu), and paclitaxel (PTX), are widely used for GC chemotherapy and mainly induce cancer cell apoptosis via the intrinsic apoptosis pathway.[1, 4] The cytotoxic insults caused by these drugs can activate BH3‐only proteins, which further activate and oligomerize Bax and Bak downstream;[5] then oligomerized Bax/Bak promotes the release of cytochrome c (Cyt c) from the mitochondria into the cytosol.
