Indeed, cytoplasmic accumulation of SPOP leads to the ubiquitination and degradation of multiple regulators of cellular proliferation and apoptosis, including the tumour suppressor PTEN, ERK phosphatases, the proapoptotic molecule DAXX, and the Hedgehog pathway transcription factor GLI2, and is sufficient to induce tumorigenesis in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (Li et al., 2014). Here, SPOP is linked to clear cell renal carcinoma.
