In addition, to explore whether GSDME-mediated pyroptosis could affect ZIKV replication, the plaque assay was conducted in GSDME-KO and -overexpressed JEG-3 cells, and the results showed that deletion or overexpression of GSDME did not affect ZIKV replication in JEG-3 cells (Figure 1—figure supplement 1), suggesting that GSDME-mediated pyroptosis may be primarily a pathogenic process rather than an antiviral mechanism during ZIKV infection.
