GSDME is considered as a potential tumor suppressor gene in several types of cancers, such as gastric and hepatocellular carcinomas (Akino et al., 2007; Wang et al., 2013; Zhang et al., 2020) Recently, it has also been demonstrated to mediate pyroptosis via its activated N-terminus (GSDME-N) domain that is specifically cleaved by caspase-3 and granzyme B (Zhang et al., 2020; Rogers et al., 2017). The gene discussed is GSDME; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
