The recent clinical success of atezolizumab (anti-PD-L1) and bevacizumab (anti-VEGFA) combination in prolonging progression-free survival and overall survival compared to sorafenib led to its approval by the FDA as an alternative first-line treatment for advanced HCC [3], with recommendations to potentially replace sorafenib as the new standard of care regimen [9].
