The effects of quercetin and epigalactochin-3-gallate (EGCG) on cholangiocarcinoma cells were investigated by Senggunprai et al. IL-6 and IFN-gamma were found to regulate JAK/STAT (STAT1/3 phosphorylation) pathways in cholangiocarcinoma cells, and the results suggested that these two chemicals can be employed as chemopreventive agents against these cells. The gene discussed is STAT1; the disease is cholangiocarcinoma.
