The development of atrial fibrillation is related to increased levels of endogenous atrial plasma adenosine (Maille et al., 2019), high expression of adenosine A2A receptors in the left atrium (Hove-Madsen et al., 2006) and heterogeneous expression of A1R in the right atrium (Li, Hansen & Fedorov, 2016). Here, ADORA2A is linked to atrial fibrillation.
