By increasing the activity of GABAR, muscimol effectively lowers the expression of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) in HepG2 (human liver cancer cell line), as well as cell proliferation, and a similar result is also obtained in research on colorectal cancer and stomach cancer, which reveals that the intervention of the GABAR pathway is potentially an effective therapeutic method for gastroenteric tumors. This evidence concerns the gene AFP and gastric cancer.
