NKX2-5 and familial dilated cardiomyopathy: GATA6 is not only involved in the regulation of cardiac gene expression alone, but also it can cooperate with its transcriptionally synergistic partners, including NKX2-5, TBX20, and GATA4. Indeed, the presence of functionally compromised GATA6 is followed by DCM manifestations as the result of the poor expression of genes that are involved in cardiac development21,60–65.
