Unfortunately, there is an even larger body of evidence indicating that NPY, a potent orexigenic (appetite-inducing) peptide (Beck, 2006; Assan et al., 2021), when released in response to stress stimulates adipogenesis, inducing an increase in adiposity and exacerbating obesity as well as triggering a cascade of other metabolic alterations (Masodkar et al., 2016; Ailanen et al., 2017). Here, NPY is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
