Finally, many interesting targets are under evaluation for the treatment of SSc: the CD28–CD80/86 pathway blocked by abatacept, which is able to suppress T-cell activation; the CCL24 inhibitors that reduce profibrotic activity; and monoclonal antibodies that inhibit tumor necrosis factor (TNF), TGF-beta, the B-cell activating factor (BAFF), and IL-6.
