In Lytle et al.'s (46) study, it was DHA, but not EPA, that attenuated western diet-linked liver fibrosis by targeting TGF-β pathway, while in another animal study, higher expression of TIMP-1 and TGF-β pro-fibrogenic genes and more severe fibrosis score were found in EPA and DHA together with olive oil-fed mice than that in only olive oil-fed mice (21). The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is Hepatic fibrosis.
