One of the methods for inhibiting PCSK9 is with fully human monoclonal antibodies, of which alirocumab and evolocumab have been well studied in secondary prevention trials, Evaluation of Cardiovascular Outcomes After an Acute Coronary Syndrome During Treatment with Alirocumab (ODYSSEY OUTCOMES) and Further Cardiovascular Outcomes Research with PCSK9 Inhibition in Subjects with Elevated Risk (FOURIER), respectively, capable of lowering LDL-C by approximately 60% [1,45,46]. Here, PCSK9 is linked to acute coronary syndrome.
