In addition to the processes from which eukaryotic or prokaryotic cells express the coat proteins of VLPs, the heterologous expression of the coat proteins allows genetic manipulation to improve the VLP properties, such as drug delivery [168,169], enzyme delivery for enzymatic replacement therapy [8,9], enzymatic nanoreactors [15,170], nanoreactors for drug activation [171,172], immunotherapy for cancer treatment [168,173], and medical imagenology [87,174].
