The lack of difference between the VEGF staining intensity and the BVD in the adenomyosis myometrium versus control myometrium that was found in this study might be explained by the observation in a cross-sectional study by Liu et al., on ectopic endometrial tissue samples that, in cases of advanced adenomyosis, myometrial hypertrophy results in fibrosis and a concomitant decrease in vascular density [9]. Here, VEGFA is linked to adenomyosis.
