The search for alternative treatments to metformin, the gold standard drug in the management of T2D, focuses on (i) the inhibition of sodium/glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) leading to the reduced renal reabsorption of glucose, and (ii) the inhibition of dipeptidyl-peptidase IV (DPP-IV), which indirectly improves insulin secretion [7]. Here, DPP4 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
