The presence of stainable hepatocyte markers in glandular epithelium (e.g., arginase-1, HepPar1, α-fetoprotein, glypican-3, and albumin mRNA) or, conversely, of cholangiocyte markers in HCC (e.g., keratins 7 and 19, and EpCAM) are not proof of cHCC–CCA given the possibilities of aberrant gene expression in any malignancy [77]. The gene discussed is KRT7; the disease is cholangiocarcinoma.
