Previous epidemiological studies34,35 have found a higher incidence of AD in women than in men, which may be the result of sex differences in risk factors.36 Furthermore, women are known to be more vulnerable to AD-related pathology (eg, β-amyloid and tau deposition) than men.37 The present study found that the sex-specific association was independent of covariates as well as the higher incidence of LES in women than in men.
