There are at least five more infectious diseases where elevated Nf concentrations have been associated with neuro‐axonal damage and poorer clinical outcome; Herpes encephalitis (HE) (Eckerström et al., 2020; Li et al., 2019; Sellner et al., 2014), Lyme disease, HIV (Alagaratnam, Francesco, et al., 2021; Gisslén et al., 2016; Mellgren et al., 2007), tick‐borne encephalitis (Fortova et al., 2022) and Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) (Costa et al., 2019; Toorop et al., 2020). The gene discussed is NFASC; the disease is progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy.
