RNA profiling of lung epithelial cells expressing a mutant allele of PIK3 revealed HMGA1 is a part of transcription factor network connected with aberrant PIK3/AKT signaling in lung cancer, and NSCLC-derived cultured cells with activated AKT presented higher HMGA1 expression levels than the cells with low AKT activation (Scrima et al. 2012).
