In a variety of wild-type p53 cancers, including soft tissues sarcomas, osteosarcomas, and glioblastomas, amplification of the MDM2 gene has been frequently reported; this drastically reduces p53 protein levels, which in turn promotes cancer growth (Momand et al, 1998; Stefanou et al, 1998; Burton et al, 2002; Karni-Schmidt et al, 2016). The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is glioblastoma.
