ACE2 and COVID-19: It's a single‐stranded RNA (ssRNA) virus[2] that has four structural proteins, the spike (S), envelope (E), membrane (M), and nucleolus side (N), all of which elicit an immune response.[3] Evidence shows that SARS‐CoV‐2 utilizes the C‐terminal structural domain (CTD) of S1 subunit of the S protein as a receptor‐binding structural domain (RBD) to bind the target cell receptors, including angiotensin‐converting enzyme 2 (ACE2).[4] Therefore, S and RBD are currently the most used target proteins for vaccines and drugs aiming at COVID‐19.
