To date, several variants in these two receptors have been associated with depression, especially in women; these variants include rs2234693, rs9340799, rs4986938 and TA repeat in ERα as well as rs1256049 and rs2077647, rs1271572 in Erβ (Tsai et al., 2003; Kim et al., 2010; Ryan et al., 2012; Pinsonneault et al., 2013; Zhang et al., 2014; Kang et al., 2015; Różycka et al., 2016; He et al., 2017; Zhang et al., 2017; Tan et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene ESR1 and depressive disorder.
