The administration of L-arginine in this study could successfully induce acute pancreatitis as evidenced by body weight loss and increases in serum amylase, serum IL-6, serum CRP, oxidative stress markers (pancreatic MDA and 4-HNE), percentages of MPO positive cells and NF-kB positive cells, pancreatic apoptosis, and pancreatic histopathological changes. This evidence concerns the gene MPO and acute pancreatitis.
