Based on results in a murine tibial osteomyelitis model that recapitulates several features of implant-associated osteomyelitis (Li et al., 2008), we identified the glucosaminidase (Gmd) protein subunit of S. aureus autolysin (Atl) as our lead target for passive immunization (Varrone et al., 2011; Gedbjerg et al., 2013; Varrone et al., 2014; Yokogawa et al., 2018). The gene discussed is GMDS; the disease is osteomyelitis.
