Previously we showed that neuron-targeting of the membrane/lipid raft (MLR) protein caveolin-1 (using a synapsin-driven Cav-1 engineered construct termed SynCav1) promotes hippocampal synaptic and neuroplasticity 11, significantly improves learning and memory in aged mice, and preserves learning and memory in an Alzheimer's disease (AD) mouse model independent of reducing amyloid plaques 12. Here, CAV1 is linked to Alzheimer disease.
