The development of hyperuricemia has been shown to be associated with multiple genetic factors and the uric acid transporter protein genes SLC2A9 (encoding GLUT9), SLC22A12 (encoding URAT1), SLC17A1 (encoding NPT1) and ABCG2 were most strongly correlated with changes in serum uric acid levels (6–9). Here, SLC22A12 is linked to hyperuricemia.
