In the study of PCOS patients and animal models, it was found that the activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is inhibited by hyper androgen, thus inhibiting the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) and reducing the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH). This evidence concerns the gene G6PD and polycystic ovary syndrome.
