SLC12A1 and Ascites: Because of its great ability to reabsorb NaCl (25% of the filtered load) and its importance in water balance, inhibition of TAL function by furosemide (which targets the Na,K,2Cl‐cotransporter 2, NKCC2) is a very efficient therapeutic way to decrease extracellular volume in case of edema and ascites and to reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients.
