In a CCL4-induced hepatic fibrosis mouse model, the M1-type macrophages not only had a therapeutic effect on liver fibrosis by increasing the apoptosis of hepatic stellate cells but also recruited more endogenous anti-fibrosis macrophages into the liver by producing chemokines CCL2 and CCL3 (99). The gene discussed is CCL4; the disease is Hepatic fibrosis.
