Similar results were obtained in the retina of mice treated intravitreally with IFN-γ (1 ng/μL for 7 days), and ferroptosis inhibitors can rescue retinal degeneration after NaIO3 treatment as a model of AMD, strengthening the hypothesis that this pathway could be important in AMD and other eye conditions that have an inflammation component. This evidence concerns the gene IFNG and age-related macular degeneration.
