Several cytokine studies have identified increased levels of many proinflammatory cytokines in tears of treated glaucoma patients, including interleukins (IL2, IL4, IL5, IL6, IL8, IL10, IL12, IL15, IL1B), TNF, C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), and IFNG [47,76,77]. The gene discussed is FGF2; the disease is glaucoma.
