The adverse effects of non-selective MMP inhibition are reinforced by the clinical study in patients with acute myocardial infarction and HFpEF, which evaluated the impact of the inhibitor PG-116800 (oral MMP inhibitor with an affinity for MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-13 and MMP-14 and low affinity for MMP-1 and MMP-7). Here, MMP9 is linked to acute myocardial infarction.
