In patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 [31,32], higher levels of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-13, IL-17, RANTES, and IFN-γ were found, and these increased cytokines and chemokines mediated the infection immunopathogenesis and played important roles in the progression of COVID-19. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and COVID-19.
